I create automated, industrial-grade algorithmic trading systems for my own use and share my journey with other traders who are interested. I call my automated systems 'Trading Minions'. It's easy to 'trade like a machine' when a machine is doing the trading. When I'm not thinking about trading systems, I make real machines, like steam engines. I also play a little ukulele. Well, all ukuleles are little, aren't they?

Mike – yes the larger -Rs are an area for more research.
Alternately maybe an ATR based Exit?

      Hi Peter,
I’ve dug into ATR exits in the past, which are good for trades that you want to hold for a while – the ATR is a good trailing stop. For Clipper though, the moves are sharper, so here’s my thinking:
Since the premise is that we are trading a pullback in an uptrend, then new lower swing low indicates a change of trend to the short side. Thus the uptrend is broken and so is our premise. Thus it’s time to get out.
I’m getting a little time to work on this, but a welcome influx of consulting work has taken priority :/
